How to Download Music From TikTok to Your Phone
TikTok lets you favorite a sound but not download it. Here's how to get the song as an MP3 file on your phone, and when you're better off finding the full track.

Short answer: TikTok has no button that downloads a song. You can add a sound to your Favorites inside the app, but to get an actual audio file on your phone you need the video's link and an MP3 downloader. If you want the complete song rather than the clip, a streaming service is the better source.
| You want to… | Best way | What you end up with |
|---|---|---|
| Use the sound in your own TikTok later | Add to Favorites in the app | A bookmark inside TikTok, no file |
| Play it offline, set a ringtone, edit it | Download it as an MP3 | An MP3 file in your phone's downloads |
| Hear the whole song | Identify it, then stream or buy it | The full track in good quality |
Option 1: Save the Sound Inside TikTok
This is the right choice if you only want to reuse a sound in your own videos. It keeps TikTok's license intact and credits the original creator automatically.
- Open the video and tap the sound name or the spinning record at the bottom right.
- On the sound page, tap Add to Favorites. Depending on your app version it shows as a button or a bookmark icon.
- Next time you record, open Sounds and switch to the Favorites tab.
The catch: the sound never leaves TikTok. You can't play it in a music app, send it to a friend or trim it into a ringtone.
Option 2: Download the Sound as an MP3 File
For an actual file, copy the link of any video that plays the sound and paste it into the TikTok MP3 downloader. The steps are almost the same on both phones.
On iPhone
- In TikTok, tap Share on the video, then Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to tokvanta.cc/tiktok-mp3. Using Safari matters: the browser built into TikTok often blocks downloads.
- Tap Paste. The MP3 starts downloading straight away; confirm when Safari asks.
- Find it in the Files app under Downloads. From there you can play it, share it or import it into GarageBand, iMovie or CapCut.
On Android
- Copy the video's link from TikTok's Share menu.
- Open Chrome, go to tokvanta.cc/tiktok-mp3 and paste the link.
- The MP3 saves to your Downloads folder, where music players and the Files app pick it up.
Paste a video link, not a sound link
A small detail most tools skip: TikTok stores most sounds as M4A files even though it labels them MP3. TokVanta converts them to a real MP3, which matters for car stereos, older players and upload forms that reject M4A. If your phone plays M4A happily, the “original audio” option gives you TikTok's file untouched.
Option 3: Find the Full Song
Every post plays only the part of the song its creator chose, usually a short section. Downloading it gives you that clip, not the track. To get the full song:
- Check the sound name on the video or in the downloader's result. Library songs show the real title and artist.
- If it says “original sound”, the creator uploaded the audio themselves. Play the clip near a music recognition app such as Shazam, or use the song search in the Google app.
- Stream or buy the track. You get the whole song in better quality, and the artist gets paid.
Original Sound or a Song From TikTok's Library?
An original sound is audio a creator recorded or uploaded: a voice-over, a joke, a dialogue clip or music playing in the background. A library song is a licensed track TikTok offers in its sound picker. Business accounts see a narrower set called the Commercial Music Library, made of songs cleared for brands to use in TikTok posts. Whichever it is, the license lets people use it on TikTok. It doesn't turn the recording into something you can freely reuse elsewhere.
Is It Legal to Download Music From TikTok?
Saving a sound to listen to privately is generally treated as personal use, although rules differ by country. The line is crossed when you republish it: putting it in a YouTube video, an ad, a podcast or a product you sell needs permission from whoever owns the recording, and a song's owner is usually a label, not the TikTok creator. When in doubt, use the sound inside TikTok with the app's Use this sound button, which is what TikTok's licenses cover.
